For bauxite mining companies, clear and accurate reporting of resources and reserves isn’t just a recommendation, it’s a necessity. Whether you’re filing annual reports, or seeking investment, adhering to internationally accepted, essential reporting standards is paramount.

ToggleThe Global Landscape of Essential Reporting Standards
Aluminpro typically uses one of three reporting standards to disclose bauxite assets, designed to ensure transparency and comprehensive information:
- JORC Code: The Australian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy developed the JORC Code. It is the most widely adopted by companies holding bauxite assets.
- NI 43-101: Canadian Securities Administrators set this standard. It is another prominent guideline for resource and reserve reporting.
- SK 1300: For companies listed on US Exchanges, the SK 1300 filing regulations are a mandatory requirement.
These standards all follow a prescribed set of guidelines to ensure comprehensive disclosure of bauxite assets. This promotes trust and informed decision-making among potential investors.
The Critical Role of the Competent Person (CP) or Qualified Person (QP)
A cornerstone of these standards is the requirement for reports to be authored and signed off by a Competent Person. Under JORC this is a “Competent Person” (CP), or a “Qualified Person” (QP) under NI 43-101 and SK 1300. These professionals must demonstrate a minimum of five years of experience working specifically with bauxite. They must also be registered with a Professional Order or Institute.
While typically prepared by geologists or mining engineers, other professionals like process engineers can also contribute to these reports. This ensures an overall and accurate representation of the bauxite assets. The integrity of a technical report hinges on three core principles: competence, materiality, and transparency.
Why Reporting Standards Matter for Your Business
In the competitive world of mining, robust and compliant technical reports are crucial for:
- Attracting Investment: Potential investors frequently require adherence to these standards, making your assets more appealing and understandable.
- Meeting Regulatory Requirements: Listing on stock exchanges and fulfilling annual reporting obligations necessitates compliance with these internationally recognized guidelines.
- Ensuring Transparency and Trust: Full disclosure builds confidence with stakeholders, demonstrating the reliability and value of your bauxite assets.
Aluminpro has extensive experience in preparing a range of technical reports for both exploration and operating mines across South America, the Caribbean, and Africa, helping companies meet these stringent requirements and unlock the full potential of their bauxite assets.
Regardless of the development stage of a project or selected disclosure standard, the benefits of planning exploration in compliance with reporting standards are manifold. The regulations call for a well-structured and logical approach to assessing all aspects of the mining assets in question.
The process provides a checklist for such aspects, including specific reporting requirements and Quality Assurance/Quality Control measures according to the Resource or Reserve category in question. Essentially, preparing for disclosure becomes a powerful management tool, it allows for improved strategic planning and capital allocation as well as the ease of auditing a company’s assets.
